Position Description
The Section of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant to provide inpatient care to Neurosurgery patients.
*This position will be a Lead role for the eleven-member Neurosurgery APP team that manages both inpatient and outpatient care for adults and children. This position requires significant applicable experience. Compensation will reflect the Lead title.
Additional duties for this leadership position will include:
- Schedule coordination and coverage for both days and nights
- Collaboration with the section chief/program director for the management of professional and patient care issues with individual APPs
- Close work with the Neurosurgery residency program director, section chief, and attending physicians
- Participation in recruitment of new APPs
- Development of educational opportunities for midlevel providers
The Advanced Practice Provider will be dedicated to inpatient care and will provide health care including the assessment of physical and psychosocial status, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests, interpretation of data, implementation of therapeutic plans, and follow-through as needed. The APRN/PA will also provide health education and counseling to patients and/or family members and assist with the integration of care by other providers and make appropriate referrals.
This is a full-time, salaried position. The schedule for this position includes rotating, day and night in-house coverage for the Neurosurgery Service. This is not a surgical position, although some opportunities for bedside procedures exist.

Minimum Education & Experience:
- Minimum of three years advanced practice experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and aptitude.
- Previous Neurosurgery/Neuro-Critical Care experience required.
Qualifications
Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurses:
Nurse Practitioner with a Masters of Nursing from an accredited program with current NH license, or eligible for licensure in NH as a Family or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Demonstrated experience in neurosurgery or neuro-critical care.
Requirements for Physician Assistants:
Current (or eligible) certification to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of New Hampshire. Academic preparation at the Master's level preferred. Demonstrated experience in neurosurgery or neuro-critical care.
